Conductor: Teodor Currentzis
Teodor Currentzis remains in the news. In autumn 2018, aged 47, he took over the post of principal conductor of the SWR Symphonieorchester. Newly merged from broadcaster SWR’s two previous orchestras, the ensemble needed to redefine its role – a mammoth task!
When the maestro first stepped up to the podium, the spirit of optimism was palpable: »I saw the enthusiasm in the musicians’ eyes and that convinced me together to create a new identity for the SWR Symphonieorchester. It is a challenging mission and unique opportunity.« The most important factor is the musicians’ trust in their new director. Rehearsals are highly focussed, intense and meticulously detailed, say the musicians. That the chemistry is right can also be felt in the performances, the conductor and instruments fluidly moving in harmony, mindful of every detail, creating music that captivates the audience bar after bar.
